Bart Keymeulen serves as Director of the Department of Clinical Diabetology and as Head of the Clinical Trial Center of University Hospital-UZ Brussel. He is also Head of the Research Cluster “Diabetes, Transplantation and Pathology” of the Brussels Free University-VUB. He serves as Full Professor in Medicine at VUB. He is Head of the Clinical Trial Working Group and member of the Steering Committee of the Belgian Diabetes Registry and Head of the Multicenter Trial Team at the Center for Beta Cell Therapy in Diabetes. He was Senior Clinical Investigator of The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) between 2001 and 2016, and is honorary president of the Flemish Diabetes Liga and honorary member of the International Society of Internal Medicine. His area of expertise is type 1 diabetes with focus on translational projects such as beta cell replacement and immune intervention. Under his guidance, islet transplantations in more than 120 patients have identified donor and recipient characteristics of success and failure. Bart Keymeulen authored a total of 119 original articles published in international peer-reviewed journals.
