Philippe Ravassard
Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle épinière (ICM, CNRS – UMR 7225)
Philippe Ravassard studied Biochemistry and obtained his PhD in developmental neurobiology at the “Ecole Normale Supérieure” in Cachan, France. He joined McGill University in Montreal for post-doctoral studies. He is since 2011 leading the Biotechnology & Biotherapy team at the Brain and Spine institute (ICM, Paris).
During the past 15 years he has significantly contributed in the field of pancreas development. He notably engineered the first and only human pancreatic beta cell line that secretes insulin physiologically in response to glucose. The Biotechnology & Biotherapy laboratory directed by P. Ravassard has built during the past fifteen years a collection of more than 2000 lentiviral gene transfer tools vectors and the related known-how mostly dedicated to the field of diabetes and neuroscience. This led to the foundation of the iVector core facility in the “Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle épinière” (ICM). Today iVector produces quality controlled batches of highly concentrated gene transfer vectors including lentivral and retroviral vectors, Adeno-Associated virus and Canine Adenovirus at small and large scale, under ISO 9001 accreditation.
