Zhidong Ling is head of the Beta Cell Bank which belongs to the University Hospital-UZ Brussel. The bank has more than 30 years experience in processing human pancreases to standardized tissue and cell preparations, to be used in clinical trials and associated research projects. It is recognized as tissue bank by the Belgian health authorities. It has expertise to isolate human pancreas, preserve isolated cells in serum-free culture conditions, and perform quality control assays that determine beta cell number, purity, integrity and function.
